As nebulae are one of the most beautiful celestial objects we can find on heaven. They are clouds of interstellar dust and gas that are located in most cases, within the galaxies, being responsible for the formation of stars.
There are various types of nebulae, with different characteristics.
Emission Nebulae
• Glow in different colors, depending on their chemical composition;
• Contains about 90% hydrogen;
• They are often dark spots that result from the blockage of light by clouds of dust;
• Some examples are: the Orion constellation, Omega Nebula, the Tarantula Nebula, Lagoon Nebula, among others.
Dark nebulae
• Great clouds that appear in regions with few stars;
• Can be seen with the darkening of other nebulae (emission and reflection);
• They form snakes, but have no limits on size;
• They have almost 150 light-years long.
Reflection nebulae
• Reflect the light of one or more neighboring stars;
• Not as hot as the others, but they are bright;
• Only found in blue;
• Are observed along with emission nebulae
Planetary Nebulae
• Formed by stars at the end of his life;
• Short time of life, for the stars;
• There exists 1500 currently known;
• Approximately 1 light-year diameter;
• 10,000 years go by between their formation and recombination of the gases.
